Viac sa hovor\u00ed o tej prvej. Preto som sa rozhodla viac pribl\u00ed\u017ei\u0165 t\u00fa druh\u00fa, ktor\u00e1 m\u00e1 pre m\u0148a osobne a pre moju tvorbu v\u00e4\u010d\u0161\u00ed v\u00fdznam. Tento \u010dl\u00e1nok, vych\u00e1dzaj\u00faci z m\u00f4jho wiki\u010dl\u00e1nku Program Space Shuttle, no bohato doplnen\u00fd a vylep\u0161en\u00fd, som zverej\u0148ovala ako seri\u00e1l na serveri i-Astrin. Nako\u013eko v\u0161ak tento server dostal nov\u00fa podobu, sprostredkujem ho tu pekne cel\u00fd pokope. Pribl\u00ed\u017eme si hist\u00f3riu najdlh\u0161ie trvaj\u00faceho a po\u010dtom \u0161tartov najv\u00e4\u010d\u0161ieho americk\u00e9ho programu pilotovan\u00fdch letov. \u010co predch\u00e1dzalo v\u00fdnimo\u010dn\u00e9mu d\u0148u, v ktorom sa zo \u0161tartovacieho komplexu 39 vzniesol prv\u00fd viacn\u00e1sobne pou\u017eite\u013en\u00fd raketopl\u00e1n Columbia?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Problematika viacn\u00e1sobne pou\u017eite\u013en\u00e9ho kozmick\u00e9ho prostriedku sa na za\u010diatku hist\u00f3rie pilotovan\u00fdch letov preberala len okrajovo. Man\u00e9vrovanie v atmosf\u00e9re po n\u00e1vrate z kozmu v\u00fdskumn\u00edkov zauj\u00edmalo sk\u00f4r z d\u00f4vodu, aby stroj vedel prist\u00e1\u0165 vo vybranej oblasti a nedostal sa na nepriate\u013esk\u00e9 \u00fazemie, nie preto, aby sa s danou kozmickou lo\u010fou dalo letie\u0165 znova. Prv\u00fdm projektom kozmick\u00e9ho klz\u00e1ku bol X-20 Dyna-Soar firmy Boeing. Na jeho realiz\u00e1ciu sa vynalo\u017eili zna\u010dn\u00e9 n\u00e1klady, ale v roku 1963 bol projekt zru\u0161en\u00fd v prospech vojenskej dru\u017eicovej stanice MOL (nesk\u00f4r tie\u017e zru\u0161enej). Zdroj: commons.wikimedia.org<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Projekt Space Shuttle nasledoval po programe Apollo, ktor\u00e9ho vyvrcholen\u00edm sa stali prist\u00e1tia americk\u00fdch pos\u00e1dok na Mesiaci. Po tomto \u00faspechu predniesla na prejedn\u00e1van\u00ed bud\u00facej koncepcie americkej kozmonautiky \u0161peci\u00e1lna komisia STG (Space Task Group) n\u00e1vrh cesty \u010dloveka na Mars. \u010eal\u0161ie n\u00e1vrhy zah\u0155\u0148ali pl\u00e1ny na stanicu na zemskej orbite, trvale ob\u00fdvate\u013en\u00fa mesa\u010dn\u00fa z\u00e1klad\u0148u a viacn\u00e1sobne pou\u017eite\u013en\u00fd kozmick\u00fd dopravn\u00fd prostriedok. Hlavn\u00fdm probl\u00e9mom realiz\u00e1cie t\u00fdchto n\u00e1vrhov v\u0161ak boli financie. V roku 1971 dostala NASA od svojho zalo\u017eenia po prv\u00fdkr\u00e1t zn\u00ed\u017een\u00fd rozpo\u010det. To znamenalo, \u017ee musela nielen zamietnu\u0165 \u00favahy o ceste na Mars a \u010fal\u0161\u00edch ve\u013ekolep\u00fdch n\u00e1vrhoch, ale o rok nesk\u00f4r pred\u010dasne skon\u010dil aj program Apollo. Tie toti\u017e boli v priebehu \u0161tartu alebo kr\u00e1tko po \u0148om zaka\u017ed\u00fdm zni\u010den\u00e9, respekt\u00edve viac nepou\u017eite\u013en\u00e9. Kompletne funk\u010dn\u00e9 potom zostali len ich n\u00e1klady, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adhara.sk\/?page_id=2711\">kozmick\u00e9 lode<\/a>, no aj tie iba do pr\u00edprav na prist\u00e1tie. Pred prist\u00e1t\u00edm v atmosf\u00e9re, \u010di u\u017e v sovietskych alebo americk\u00fdch kozmick\u00fdch lodiach, bola \u010das\u0165 kozmickej lode odhoden\u00e1 a zanikla v atmosf\u00e9re. Prist\u00e1vala iba mal\u00e1 kab\u00edna s pos\u00e1dkou. A dokonca ani t\u00e1 sa nedala op\u00e4tovne pou\u017ei\u0165, preto\u017ee jej tepeln\u00fd \u0161t\u00edt sa pri prechode horn\u00fdmi vrstvami atmosf\u00e9ry postupne vyparoval. Podobn\u00fd proces prebieha aj v meteoroch. T\u00fdm tepeln\u00fd \u0161t\u00edt zabra\u0148oval, aby sa kab\u00edna zahriala pod vplyvom obrovsk\u00e9ho tepla, ktor\u00e9 vznik\u00e1, ke\u010f kozmick\u00e1 lo\u010f odovzd\u00e1va svoju kinetick\u00fa energiu \u010dasticiam okolitej atmosf\u00e9ry. V\u00fdvojov\u00fd program bol schv\u00e1len\u00fd v roku 1972. Od raketopl\u00e1nov sa tie\u017e o\u010dak\u00e1valo, \u017ee zachr\u00e1nia a znovuos\u00eddlia prv\u00fa a jedin\u00fa americk\u00fa kozmick\u00fa stanicu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adhara.sk\/?page_id=7893\">Skylab<\/a>, ktor\u00e1 po opusten\u00ed poslednou pos\u00e1dkou v roku 1974 postupne klesala do zemskej atmosf\u00e9ry. Stanicu mal vynies\u0165 na vy\u0161\u0161iu orbitu raketopl\u00e1n pri misii STS-3, na ktor\u00fa za\u010dali v marci 1978 tr\u00e9nova\u0165 astronauti Fred Haise a Jack Lousma. Sklzy vo v\u00fdvoji a pr\u00edprave na \u0161tart prv\u00e9ho exempl\u00e1ru v\u0161ak sp\u00f4sobili, \u017ee 15. decembra 1978 NASA priznala, \u017ee stanicu u\u017e nie je mo\u017en\u00e9 zachr\u00e1ni\u0165.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lacnej\u0161\u00ed, viac\u00fa\u010delov\u00fd, viacn\u00e1sobne pou\u017eite\u013en\u00fd a \u010dastej\u0161ie \u0161tartuj\u00faci, meniaci kozmick\u00e9 lety na podobn\u00fa rutinu, ak\u00fdmi s\u00fa lety lietadiel. Tak\u00e9 boli prvotn\u00e9 predstavy o raketopl\u00e1ne. \u010c\u00edsla boli ve\u013emi smel\u00e9 \u2013 prv\u00e9 predstavy po\u010d\u00edtali a\u017e so 150 \u0161tartmi ro\u010dne. Kedy a z ak\u00fdch d\u00f4vodov sa za\u010dali rozch\u00e1dza\u0165 s realitou?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Spo\u010diatku existovali dve mo\u017enosti, ako by mal viacn\u00e1sobne pou\u017eite\u013en\u00fd kozmick\u00fd dopravn\u00fd prostriedok vyzera\u0165. Prv\u00e1 spo\u010d\u00edvala v dvojstup\u0148ovom stroji, ktor\u00fd pozost\u00e1val z dvoch samostatn\u00fdch okr\u00eddlen\u00fdch kozmick\u00fdch lod\u00ed. V\u00fdvoj dvojstup\u0148ov\u00e9ho variantu raketopl\u00e1nu sa v\u0161ak uk\u00e1zal by\u0165 ne\u00fanosne drah\u00fdm. NASA preto zvolila n\u00e1vrh jeden a polstup\u0148ov\u00e9ho variantu raketopl\u00e1nu, \u010do znamen\u00e1 variant, v ktorom prv\u00fd a druh\u00fd raketov\u00fd stupe\u0148 pracuj\u00fa s\u00fa\u010dasne, ale druh\u00fd omnoho dlh\u0161ie ako prv\u00fd. Tento n\u00e1vrh podrobne rozpracov\u00e1vali firmy Grumman a Boeing. N\u00e1vrh firmy Grumann vlo\u017eil odhadzovaciu n\u00e1dr\u017e na kvapaln\u00fd vod\u00edk a kysl\u00edk do jedn\u00e9ho telesa aerodynamick\u00e9ho tvaru, v ktorom s\u00fa tieto dve n\u00e1dr\u017ee pod sebou. Po\u010d\u00edtal v\u0161ak s t\u00fdm, \u017ee t\u00e1to spolo\u010dn\u00e1 odhadzovacia n\u00e1dr\u017e sa pri ka\u017edom lete zni\u010d\u00ed. Cel\u00fd stroj tak u\u017e nemohol by\u0165 viacn\u00e1sobne pou\u017eite\u013en\u00fd. Nako\u013eko v\u0161ak boli n\u00e1klady na v\u00fdvoj tak\u00e9hoto typu stroja men\u0161ie ne\u017e ne\u00fanosne ve\u013ek\u00e9 n\u00e1klady na v\u00fdvoj kozmickej lode, ktor\u00e1 by mohla zopakova\u0165 let cel\u00e1, NASA prist\u00fapila na t\u00fato mo\u017enos\u0165. To s\u00edce zmen\u0161ilo n\u00e1klady na v\u00fdvoj, ale vzr\u00e1stli n\u00e1klady na prev\u00e1dzku takejto kozmickej lode.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vo fin\u00e1lnom n\u00e1vrhu sa Space Shuttle napokon skladal zo \u0161tyroch hlavn\u00fdch \u010dast\u00ed: z <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adhara.sk\/?page_id=468\">dru\u017eicov\u00e9ho stup\u0148a (orbitera)<\/a>, ktor\u00fd bol jeho najzlo\u017eitej\u0161ou s\u00fa\u010das\u0165ou \u2013 niesol kr\u00eddla, kab\u00ednu pre pos\u00e1dku, ako aj v\u0161etok n\u00e1klad a hlavn\u00e9 motory, z odhadzovacej n\u00e1dr\u017ee ET (najv\u00e4\u010d\u0161\u00ed kon\u0161truk\u010dn\u00fd prvok), z ktorej sa do dru\u017eicov\u00e9ho stup\u0148a po\u010das \u0161tartu priv\u00e1dza palivo (kvapaln\u00fd vod\u00edk a kysl\u00edk), a z dvojice \u0161tartovac\u00edch motorov na tuh\u00e9 pohonn\u00e9 hmoty (SRB). Zatia\u013e \u010do orbiter a motory SRB boli znovupou\u017eite\u013en\u00e9, preto\u017ee dok\u00e1zali po splnen\u00ed svojho \u00fa\u010delu prist\u00e1\u0165 na Zemi (orbiter k\u013azav\u00fdm letom podobn\u00fdm prist\u00e1vaniu lietadla; SRB na pad\u00e1koch), n\u00e1dr\u017e ET pri ka\u017edom lete zanikla zhoren\u00edm v atmosf\u00e9re. Orbiter bol pri n\u00e1vrate z kozmu chr\u00e1nen\u00fd origin\u00e1lnym tepeln\u00fdm \u0161t\u00edtom, ktor\u00fd pozost\u00e1va z obrovsk\u00e9ho mno\u017estva navz\u00e1jom ve\u013emi tesne priliehaj\u00facich \u017eiaruvzdorn\u00fdch dla\u017ed\u00edc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Podobne ako po\u010det \u0161tartov ro\u010dne postupne klesali aj predstavy o po\u010dte pou\u017eit\u00ed ka\u017ed\u00e9ho orbitera. P\u00f4vodn\u00e9 pl\u00e1ny hovorili a\u017e o 500 letoch ka\u017ed\u00e9ho dru\u017eicov\u00e9ho stup\u0148a, nesk\u00f4r, po spresnen\u00ed technick\u00fdch podmienok, poklesli na 100 letov, potom na 50 letov. Skuto\u010dnos\u0165 bola tak\u00e1, \u017ee najv\u00e4\u010d\u0161\u00ed po\u010det letov, ktor\u00e9 kedy jeden orbiter absolvoval, bol 39.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">D\u0148a 26. j\u00fala 1972 NASA ozn\u00e1mila, \u017ee hlavn\u00fdm dod\u00e1vate\u013eom raketopl\u00e1nu a v\u00fdrobcom jeho dru\u017eicov\u00e9ho stup\u0148a bude firma North American Avation (dnes s\u00fa\u010das\u0165 Boeingu). Prvotn\u00fd kontrakt po\u010d\u00edtal s v\u00fdrobou piatich letuschopn\u00fdch exempl\u00e1rov orbitera. Prv\u00e1 misia sa mala uskuto\u010dni\u0165 v roku 1978, dva roky po dokon\u010den\u00ed prv\u00e9ho prototypu. North American Avation bola prostredn\u00edctvom svojej pobo\u010dky Rocketdyne aj dod\u00e1vate\u013eom hlavn\u00fdch motorov raketopl\u00e1nu. Zmluvy na v\u00fdrobu \u010fal\u0161\u00edch \u010dast\u00ed, u ktor\u00fdch sa nepredpokladal tak\u00fd zd\u013ahav\u00fd v\u00fdvoj, NASA uzavrela a\u017e nesk\u00f4r. V\u00fdrobu odhadzovacej n\u00e1dr\u017ee s palivom ozna\u010denej ako External Tank (ET) dostala firma Martin Marietta (dnes s\u00fa\u010das\u0165 firmy Lockheed Martin) a pomocn\u00e9 \u0161tartovacie motory vyrobila Morton-Thiokol (dnes s\u00fa\u010das\u0165 spolo\u010dnosti Northrop Grumman). Detaily prvej koncepcie boli dokon\u010den\u00e9 v okt\u00f3bri 1972. Pr\u00e1ce na niektor\u00fdch komponentoch dostali subdod\u00e1vatelia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Po\u017eiadavka na viacn\u00e1sobn\u00e9 pou\u017eitie stroja bola v programe Space Shuttle k\u013e\u00fa\u010dov\u00e1. Prv\u00e9 \u0161t\u00fadie v\u0161ak podcenili jej n\u00e1ro\u010dnos\u0165. Nedarilo sa dr\u017ea\u0165 jeho v\u00fdvojov\u00fd harmonogram ani rozpo\u010det. Odhady po\u010dtu \u0161tartov ro\u010dne boli \u010doraz triezvej\u0161ie. V roku 1975 sa po\u010d\u00edtalo priemerne so 60 letmi za rok. Prebiehala tie\u017e intenz\u00edvna prestavba Kennedyho vesm\u00edrneho strediska. Na \u0161tart raketopl\u00e1nov sa prisp\u00f4sobil historick\u00fd komplex 39, z ktor\u00e9ho \u0161tartovali aj lety programu Apollo. Vybudovala sa tie\u017e prist\u00e1vacia dr\u00e1ha.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">V r\u00e1mci v\u00fdvoja stroja bolo vyroben\u00fdch nieko\u013eko prototypov raketopl\u00e1nu ur\u010den\u00fdch len na pozemsk\u00e9 sk\u00fa\u0161ky. Jedna maketa raketopl\u00e1nu dostala dodato\u010dne meno Explorer. Dokon\u010dili ho v Downey v Kalifornii. P\u00f4vodne sa mal vola\u0165 Constitution (\u00dastava), ale na z\u00e1klade celon\u00e1rodnej listovej kampane bol na n\u00e1tlak fan\u00fa\u0161ikov telev\u00edzneho seri\u00e1lu Star Trek nakoniec pomenovan\u00fd Enterprise. Enterprise v\u0161ak e\u0161te nebol ur\u010den\u00fd na vesm\u00edrne lety, hoci sa uva\u017eovalo o jeho prestavbe na letuschopn\u00fd exempl\u00e1r (t\u00e1 sa ale nikdy neuskuto\u010dnila). K tomu mu ch\u00fdbali niektor\u00e9 d\u00f4le\u017eit\u00e9 prvky, napr\u00edklad motory SSME. Sl\u00fa\u017eil len na atmosf\u00e9rick\u00e9 sk\u00fa\u0161ky prist\u00e1vania. Prist\u00e1vanie k\u013azav\u00fdm letom bolo nie\u010do, \u010do doteraz pri n\u00e1vrate z obe\u017enej dr\u00e1hy nemalo obdobu, ch\u00fdbali poznatky a sk\u00fasenosti. Prv\u00fd let, pri ktorom lietadlo SCA uvo\u013enilo Enterprise na samostatn\u00fd let, sa uskuto\u010dnil 12. augusta 1977. Samostatn\u00e9 lety raketopl\u00e1nu prebiehali s aerodynamick\u00fdm n\u00e1stavcom, ale aj bez neho. Vykon\u00e1vali sa tie\u017e sk\u00fa\u0161ky transportu raketopl\u00e1nu na chrbte SCA na ve\u013ek\u00e9 vzdialenosti.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sk\u00fa\u0161obn\u00e9 lety s Enterprise skon\u010dili v okt\u00f3bri 1977. Hoci tieto testy uk\u00e1zali, \u017ee raketopl\u00e1ny s\u00fa schopn\u00e9 lieta\u0165 v zemskej atmosf\u00e9re a prist\u00e1va\u0165, objavili sa nov\u00e9 probl\u00e9my a cel\u00fd projekt sa dost\u00e1val do \u010dasov\u00e9ho sklzu. Kongres Spojen\u00fdch \u0161t\u00e1tov zamietol finan\u010dn\u00e9 prostriedky na stavbu piateho raketopl\u00e1nu \u2013 ich flotila sa preto skladala len zo \u0161tyroch strojov. Tento exempl\u00e1r nebol schopn\u00fd ani atmosf\u00e9rick\u00fdch letov, pou\u017e\u00edval sa len na testovanie pozemn\u00fdch zariaden\u00ed a pr\u00edpravu person\u00e1lu na pr\u00e1ce so skuto\u010dn\u00fdmi raketopl\u00e1nmi. Maketa raketopl\u00e1nu dostala nesk\u00f4r pomenovanie Pathfinder a v s\u00fa\u010dasnosti je vystaven\u00e1 v United States Space &amp; Rocket Center v Huntsville v Alabame. Enterprise samotn\u00fd je vystaven\u00fd na vysl\u00fa\u017eilej lietadlovej lodi Intrepid v New Yorku.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Na sklonku sedemdesiatych rokov sa program Space Shuttle pomaly, ale isto bl\u00ed\u017eil k svojmu prv\u00e9mu letu. Hoci stroj bol sedemmiestny, pos\u00e1dky prv\u00fdch, testovac\u00edch misi\u00ed boli iba dvoj\u010dlenn\u00e9. O zah\u00e1jen\u00ed programu raketopl\u00e1nov sa dozvedel pr\u00e1ve po\u010das pr\u00e1c na mesa\u010dnom povrchu. Robert Crippen bol n\u00e1morn\u00fd kapit\u00e1n, nov\u00e1\u010dik, \u010do sa letov do kozmu t\u00fdka. Pod\u013ea in\u00fdch zdrojov bola pomenovan\u00e1 po malej plachetnici, ktor\u00e1 sk\u00famala \u00fastie rieky Columbia. Tento ist\u00fd n\u00e1zov niesol aj velite\u013esk\u00fd modul Apolla 11.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">28. j\u00fana 1976 sa za\u010dala mont\u00e1\u017e kab\u00edny pre pos\u00e1dku, v janu\u00e1ri nasleduj\u00faceho roka kon\u0161trukcia vertik\u00e1lneho stabiliz\u00e1tora. Term\u00edn odovzdania Columbie NASA v\u0161ak bol u\u017e prv\u00fd term\u00edn (hoci v tom \u010dase d\u00e1vno neaktu\u00e1lny) predpokladan\u00e9ho \u0161tartu. Pri sk\u00fa\u0161obnom lete lietadla SCA s Columbiou na chrbte navy\u0161e niektor\u00e9 z dla\u017ed\u00edc jej tepelnej ochrany odpadli a po\u0161kodili nieko\u013eko in\u00fdch dla\u017ed\u00edc. Stroj sa n\u00e1sledne musel opravova\u0165, a tak sa na Kennedyho vesm\u00edrne stredisko vyd\u00e1val s dvojt\u00fd\u017ed\u0148ov\u00fdm oneskoren\u00edm. Pri\u0161iel tam 24. marca, no ani vtedy e\u0161te ani z\u010faleka nebol v letuschopnom stave. Ch\u00fdbali mu e\u0161te hlavn\u00e9 motory, pomocn\u00e9 gener\u00e1tory hydrauliky, palivov\u00e9 \u010dl\u00e1nky, riadiace po\u010d\u00edta\u010de, tepeln\u00e1 izol\u00e1cia motorov a 7 800 do\u0161ti\u010diek tepelnej ochrany (in\u00fd zdroj uv\u00e1dza a\u017e 30 000). Prvou kompletnou a letuschopnou \u010das\u0165ou raketopl\u00e1nu boli motory SRB \u2013 dvojica raketov\u00fdch motorov na tuh\u00e9 pohonn\u00e9 hmoty, ktor\u00e9 sa z boku prip\u00e1jali k n\u00e1dr\u017ei ET. Ich posledn\u00fd test, po ktorom boli vyhl\u00e1sen\u00e9 za letuschopn\u00e9, sa uskuto\u010dnil 17. septembra 1979.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pretrv\u00e1vali v\u0161ak aj \u0165a\u017ekosti s tepeln\u00fdm \u0161t\u00edtom, ktor\u00fd bol, ako plno in\u00fdch vec\u00ed, na kozmick\u00fa lo\u010f ve\u013ekou novinkou. V snahe u\u0161etri\u0165 finan\u010dn\u00e9 prostriedky najala firma Rockwell International na lepenie do\u0161ti\u010diek tepelnej ochrany vysoko\u0161kolsk\u00fdch \u0161tudentov, ktor\u00ed v\u0161ak pr\u00e1cu vykonali nespo\u013eahlivo. Niektor\u00e9 do\u0161ti\u010dky sa museli strhn\u00fa\u0165 a znova prilepi\u0165. Nasleduj\u00faceho roku sa krit\u00e9ri\u00e1 na dynamick\u00fa pevnos\u0165 tepeln\u00e9ho \u0161t\u00edtu zv\u00fd\u0161ili, a tak bolo treba vymeni\u0165 \u010fal\u0161\u00edch 3 400 do\u0161ti\u010diek. Napokon, hoci z prv\u00e9ho a 26 \u010fal\u0161\u00edch letov sa Columbia bezpe\u010dne vr\u00e1tila, sa obavy uk\u00e1zali by\u0165 opodstatnen\u00e9. Po\u0161kodenie bolo tak\u00e9 z\u00e1va\u017en\u00e9, \u017ee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adhara.sk\/?page_id=756\">Columbia sa pri n\u00e1vrate do atmosf\u00e9ry rozpadla<\/a> a cel\u00e1 jej sedem\u010dlenn\u00e1 pos\u00e1dka zahynula.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rekon\u0161trukcia tepeln\u00e9ho \u0161t\u00edtu prv\u00e9ho orbitera si napokon vy\u017eiadala cel\u00fd rok a skon\u010dila sa a\u017e 16. novembra 1980. V tomto roku program po\u010d\u00edtal u\u017e len zhruba so 40 \u0161tartmi za rok. K ET sa z oboch str\u00e1n symetricky prip\u00e1jali motory SRB. Cel\u00fd tento komplex bol zostaven\u00fd na mobilnom vyp\u00fa\u0161\u0165acom zariaden\u00ed Mobile Launcher platform (MLP). D\u0148a 29. decembra sa MLP so svoj\u00edm n\u00e1kladom vydal na sedemhodinov\u00fa cestu na \u0161tartovac\u00ed komplex 39A, kde za\u010dali z\u00e1vere\u010dn\u00e9 sk\u00fa\u0161ky.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">19. marca 1981 do\u0161lo v priebehu pozemn\u00fdch testov k nehode. Po \u00faspe\u0161nom zakon\u010den\u00ed z\u00e1vere\u010dn\u00fdch pred\u0161tartovn\u00fdch oper\u00e1ci\u00ed chcela skupina technikov skontrolova\u0165 syst\u00e9my motorov SSME (Space Shuttle Main Engines). Technici uvo\u013enili panel, v n\u00e1sledku \u010doho do\u0161lo k \u00faniku dus\u00edka. V ned\u00fdchate\u013enej atmosf\u00e9re \u010dist\u00e9ho dus\u00edku stratili vedomie, pri\u010dom jeden z nich na mieste zomrel, a o dva t\u00fd\u017edne na n\u00e1sledky tejto nehody zomrel aj \u010fal\u0161\u00ed technik.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prv\u00e9mu \u0161tartu predch\u00e1dzalo viac ako \u0161tvord\u0148ov\u00e9 odpo\u010d\u00edtavanie, pri\u010dom pl\u00e1novan\u00fd d\u00e1tum \u0161tartu bol 10. apr\u00edl 1981. V tento de\u0148 si dvoj\u010dlenn\u00e1 pos\u00e1dka obliekla skafandre EES (Ejection Escape Suit) vyvinut\u00e9 \u0161peci\u00e1lne pre prv\u00e9 lety raketopl\u00e1nov. Mali sl\u00fa\u017ei\u0165 na ochranu pos\u00e1dky v pr\u00edpade, \u017ee bude nutn\u00e9 sa v priebehu \u0161tartu alebo prist\u00e1vania zo stroja katapultova\u0165. Ich s\u00fa\u010das\u0165ou bol tzv. anti-G oblek, ktor\u00fd pri man\u00e9vroch s ve\u013ek\u00fdm pre\u0165a\u017een\u00edm vytl\u00e1\u010da krv zo spodnej \u010dasti tela do hornej, aby sa predi\u0161lo \u0161kodliv\u00fdm \u00fa\u010dinkom pre\u0165a\u017eenia na \u013eudsk\u00fd organizmus. Do vlastn\u00e9ho skafandra sa nastupovalo zozadu. V tom v\u0161ak nastal probl\u00e9m so synchroniz\u00e1ciou jedn\u00e9ho z po\u010d\u00edta\u010dov. To znamenalo odklad \u0161tartu. Po \u0161es\u0165 a pol hodine \u010dakania pos\u00e1dka opustila raketopl\u00e1n. Pilot Crippen sa nazd\u00e1val, \u017ee rie\u0161enie probl\u00e9mu s po\u010d\u00edta\u010dom zaberie dlh\u00fa dobu. Na prekvapenie oboch \u010dlenov pos\u00e1dky sa v\u0161ak u\u017e na druh\u00fd de\u0148 dozvedeli, \u017ee probl\u00e9m sa podarilo vyrie\u0161i\u0165 a \u0161tart je napl\u00e1novan\u00fd na nasleduj\u00faci de\u0148, 12. apr\u00edla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">V ur\u010den\u00fd de\u0148 teda pos\u00e1dka znova zaujala miesta vo svojich kresl\u00e1ch v kokpite Columbie. No r\u00fdchlo sa objavil \u010fal\u0161\u00ed probl\u00e9m \u2013 po sklopen\u00ed priezorov na svojich prilb\u00e1ch astronauti nemohli d\u00fdcha\u0165. Americk\u00fd raketopl\u00e1n, na rozdiel od nesk\u00f4r vyvinut\u00e9ho sovietskeho, v\u0161ak nebol schopn\u00fd absolvova\u0165 cel\u00fa misiu v bezpilotnom re\u017eime. Jeho kritickou \u010das\u0165ou bola z\u00e1vere\u010dn\u00e1 f\u00e1za prist\u00e1vania. Hoci v 21. storo\u010d\u00ed po moderniz\u00e1cii raketopl\u00e1nov bol vyvinut\u00fd sp\u00f4sob, ako by so strojom dok\u00e1zali pravdepodobne \u00faspe\u0161ne prist\u00e1\u0165 technici riadiaci ho zo Zeme, za\u010diatkom 80-tych rokov to bola e\u0161te hudba ve\u013emi vzdialenej bud\u00facnosti. Neodsk\u00fa\u0161an\u00fd bol nielen samotn\u00fd dru\u017eicov\u00fd stupe\u0148 raketopl\u00e1nu, ale aj cel\u00e1 unik\u00e1tna \u0161tartovacia zostava, \u010di\u017ee aj n\u00e1dr\u017e ET a motory SRB. Pos\u00e1dka musela \u00faplne d\u00f4verova\u0165 kon\u0161trukt\u00e9rom a technikom, \u017ee sa pri pr\u00edprav\u00e1ch stroja na let nezm\u00fdlili. Navy\u0161e v pr\u00edpade hav\u00e1rie boli mo\u017enosti z\u00e1chrany pos\u00e1dky chab\u00e9. V katapultovacie kresl\u00e1 nemali astronauti ve\u013ek\u00fa d\u00f4veru. Ak by boli pou\u017eit\u00e9 v priebehu \u0161tartu pred oddelen\u00edm motorov SRB, pos\u00e1dku by spaliny t\u00fdchto motorov zabili. Tragick\u00e1 katastrofa toti\u017e mohla nasta\u0165 u\u017e v prv\u00fdch sekund\u00e1ch jej \u00faplne prv\u00e9ho letu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Motory SRB nikdy neboli a nemohli by\u0165 testovan\u00e9 pre z\u00e1\u017eih vo zvislej polohe, a navy\u0161e oba naraz. Preto v okamihu prv\u00e9ho \u0161tartu raketopl\u00e1nu vytvorili ove\u013ea silnej\u0161iu akustick\u00fa vlnu, ako sa predpokladalo. Akustick\u00e1 vlna je pre \u0161tartuj\u00facu raketu nebezpe\u010dn\u00e1. Na zmiernenie jej \u00fa\u010dinkov p\u00e1r okamihov pred z\u00e1\u017eehom motorov chrli\u010de na rampe za\u010dali chrli\u0165 vodu, aby vytvorili vodn\u00fa clonu. No t\u00fato vodn\u00fa clonu vytvorili kon\u0161trukt\u00e9ri len na z\u00e1klade teoretick\u00fdch v\u00fdpo\u010dtov. A ako sa nesk\u00f4r zistilo, pri prvom \u0161tarte Columbie bola ve\u013emi poddimenzovan\u00e1. Navy\u0161e zapa\u013eovac\u00ed plame\u0148, ktor\u00fd zo \u0161pice motoru SRB smeroval palivov\u00fdm kan\u00e1lom nadol, strh\u00e1val so sebou zrnk\u00e1 pevn\u00e9ho paliva tohto motora. Tie boli cez d\u00fdzu vymr\u0161ten\u00e9 von a vznietili sa a\u017e pod rampou. T\u00fdm vznikla e\u0161te nebezpe\u010dnej\u0161ia situ\u00e1cia. Nie kv\u00f4li samotn\u00fdm plame\u0148om \u0161\u013eahaj\u00facim mimo spa\u013eovacej komory, ale kv\u00f4li zvukov\u00fdm n\u00e1razom, ktor\u00e9 tieto vzplanutia sprev\u00e1dzali. Jedno nastalo dokonca v prednej \u010dasti orbitera, v mieste, ktor\u00e9 bolo od zdroja tlakovej vlny naj\u010falej. Tam sa zdeformovala opora okysli\u010dovadla motor\u010dekov RCS \u2013 mal\u00fdch motorov, ktor\u00e9 udr\u017eiavaj\u00fa orient\u00e1ciu a zabezpe\u010duj\u00fa ot\u00e1\u010danie sa raketopl\u00e1nu v priestore. E\u0161te v\u00e4\u010d\u0161\u00ed probl\u00e9m nastal na opa\u010dnom konci stroja: tlakov\u00e1 vlna vytla\u010dila trupov\u00fa klapku (trupov\u00fd elev\u00f3n) z jej spr\u00e1vnej polohy. Trupov\u00e1 klapka zohr\u00e1vala k\u013e\u00fa\u010dov\u00fa \u00falohu pre prist\u00e1van\u00ed, bez nej nebolo mo\u017en\u00e9 stroj v atmosf\u00e9re spr\u00e1vne ovl\u00e1dal. Nefunk\u010dnos\u0165 tejto klapky by s istotou skon\u010dila de\u0161trukciou raketopl\u00e1nu. Klapka sa ovl\u00e1dala hydraulikou. Pri jej vych\u00fdlen\u00ed v okamihu \u0161tartu preto tlak v hydraulick\u00fdch potrubiach v\u00fdznamne prekro\u010dil svoje hodnoty. Potrubie v\u0161ak, na\u0161\u0165astie, nepopraskalo. Bolo toti\u017e odolnej\u0161ie ne\u017e malo by\u0165 pod\u013ea p\u00f4vodn\u00fdch pl\u00e1nov, d\u00f4vod takejto zmeny oproti pl\u00e1nu v\u0161ak nie je zn\u00e1my.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pos\u00e1dka ni\u010d zl\u00e9 netu\u0161ila. Ke\u010f raketopl\u00e1n minul 160 metrov vysok\u00fa obslu\u017en\u00fa ve\u017eu, za\u010dal rota\u010dn\u00fd man\u00e9ver, aby sa stroj dostal na obe\u017en\u00fa dr\u00e1hu so spr\u00e1vnym strojom. O dve sekundy nesk\u00f4r raketopl\u00e1n za\u010dal man\u00e9ver, ktor\u00e9ho v\u00fdsledkom bolo postupn\u00e9 \u201e\u013eahnutie si na chrb\u00e1t\u201c. Napokon, 8 min\u00fat a 32 sek\u00fand po \u0161tarte, sa vypli aj tie. O nieko\u013eko sek\u00fand na to sa odpojilo potrubie, ktor\u00e9 priv\u00e1dzalo do t\u00fdchto motorov palivo a okysli\u010dovadlo z ET, a odstre\u013eovacie mechanizmy vzdialili aj samotn\u00fa ET. Raketopl\u00e1n od nej e\u0161te zv\u00e4\u010d\u0161il vzdialenos\u0165 za pomoci vlastn\u00fdch man\u00e9vrovac\u00edch motor\u010dekov. Ich prv\u00fd z\u00e1\u017eih, takmer 10,5 min\u00faty po \u0161tarte, s\u00edce prebehol hladko, pilotov v\u0161ak prekvapili vibr\u00e1cie, ktor\u00e9 sa zjavili po ich vypnut\u00ed. Tie v\u0161ak napokon so z\u00e1\u017eihom OME nes\u00faviseli a zrejme sa objavili v d\u00f4sledku toho, \u017ee motory SSME sa sklopili do \u201eparkovacej polohy\u201c: Columbia nato postupne zap\u00e1lila motory OME e\u0161te trikr\u00e1t. Pri prvom lete Columbia neniesla nijak\u00fd n\u00e1klad na vypustenie, nach\u00e1dzali sa v \u0148om len dve zariadenia a jeden s\u00fabor pr\u00edstrojov pre meranie vlastnost\u00ed raketopl\u00e1nu. Otvorenie dver\u00ed v\u0161ak bolo k\u013e\u00fa\u010dov\u00e9 pre spr\u00e1vnu funkciu jej klimatiza\u010dn\u00e9ho syst\u00e9mu. Dovtedy ochladzovalo raketopl\u00e1n odparovanie vody, jej rezervy by sa v\u0161ak do konca tretieho obehu vy\u010derpali. Z opatrnosti za\u010dali najprv s otvoren\u00edm a n\u00e1sledn\u00fdm zatvoren\u00edm jedn\u00e9ho kr\u00eddla dver\u00ed, no t\u00e1to oper\u00e1cia i\u0161la hladko, a tak mohli ponecha\u0165 obe kr\u00eddla v otvorenej polohe. Objavilo sa v\u0161ak in\u00e9 nepr\u00edjemn\u00e9 prekvapenie \u2013 po otvoren\u00e9 dver\u00ed a zlep\u0161en\u00ed v\u00fdh\u013eadu na bloky OMS, ktor\u00e9 nes\u00fa palivo na OME, videli Young a Crippen na moduloch OMS nejak\u00e9 tmav\u00e9 \u0161tvorce. Boli to dve ch\u00fdbaj\u00face dla\u017edice tepelnej ochrany. Na tejto \u010dasti stroja nebola ich strata pr\u00edli\u0161 nebezpe\u010dn\u00e1, vzbudili v\u0161ak obavy, \u017ee dla\u017edice opadli aj zo spodnej strany raketopl\u00e1nu. V takom pr\u00edpade hrozilo pos\u00e1dke Columbie pri prist\u00e1van\u00ed zhorenie. Za pomoci vojenskej techniky \u2013 zdroje sa rozch\u00e1dzaj\u00fa v tom, akej presne \u2013 sa v\u0161ak podarilo zhotovi\u0165 sn\u00edmky spodku raketopl\u00e1nu, ktor\u00fd bol na\u0161\u0165astie neporu\u0161en\u00fd. Astronauti sa preto museli lep\u0161ie obliec\u0165. Celkov\u00e9 mno\u017estvo por\u00fach v\u0161ak bolo na prv\u00fd let prekvapilo mal\u00e9 a bezv\u00fdznamn\u00e9. Okrem in\u00e9ho sa \u00faspe\u0161ne odsk\u00fa\u0161al aj tzv. syst\u00e9m gravita\u010dnej stabiliz\u00e1cie. V tej dobe e\u0161te nebolo nepretr\u017eit\u00e9 pokrytie spojenia raketopl\u00e1nu s riadiacim strediskom a tento man\u00e9ver sa uskuto\u010dnil pr\u00e1ve v jednej z tak\u00fdchto nepokryt\u00fdch oblast\u00ed. Prebehol v\u0161ak \u00faspe\u0161ne. Stroju zost\u00e1vala posledn\u00e1, necel\u00e1 hodina letu. Oto\u010dil sa op\u00e4\u0165 nosom napred a zdvihol predok do optim\u00e1lneho uhla pre vstup do atmosf\u00e9ry (v presnej hodnote tohto uhla sa zdroje rozch\u00e1dzaj\u00fa).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vo v\u00fd\u0161ke 100 km si velite\u013e prv\u00fdkr\u00e1t v\u0161imol z\u00e1blesky \u017eeravej plazmy, ktor\u00e1 vznikla intenz\u00edvnym tren\u00edm a oba\u013eovala stroj. Na 17 min\u00fat po\u010das prist\u00e1vania sp\u00f4sobila plazma v\u00fdpadok spojenia s riadiacim strediskom. Ako sk\u00fa\u0161obn\u00fd prototyp mala Columbia najmohutnej\u0161iu vn\u00fatorn\u00fa kon\u0161trukciu kr\u00eddel zo v\u0161etk\u00fdch raketopl\u00e1nov. Bolo to pre pr\u00edpad, \u017ee by aerodynamick\u00e9 nam\u00e1hanie pri prist\u00e1van\u00ed bolo silnej\u0161ie ne\u017e ukazovali simul\u00e1cie. Bolo zvolen\u00e9 z d\u00f4vodu, \u017ee poskytovalo ove\u013ea v\u00e4\u010d\u0161\u00ed priestor pre mo\u017en\u00e9 dosadnutie dosadnutie ne\u017e \u00fazka a v porovnan\u00ed s \u0148ou kr\u00e1tka prist\u00e1vacia dr\u00e1ha na Floride. V okamihu kontaktu s dr\u00e1hou sa raketopl\u00e1n pohyboval viac ne\u017e dvojn\u00e1sobnou r\u00fdchlos\u0165ou najvy\u0161\u0161ej povolenej r\u00fdchlosti \u00e1ut na dia\u013enici.
